/ BM-98 · POCKET CHORD MACHINE
An 80s-style chord machine with a little studio inside. Every key plays a chord that fits; push the stick and it changes mood.
That’s the real app. Interact and try it out! Play the keys, push the stick, swap sounds, press PLAY.
/ WHY CHORDBOY
Designed for low-friction, chord-first songwriting, ChordBoy is an 80s-style chord machine with a mini mobile DAW built right into it.
STUDIO, BUS, COUCH, BATHROOM... I DON'T JUDGE.
GOES WHERE YOU GO
Whether you're in the studio, travelling, vegging out, or sitting on the toilet needing some creative dopamine, ChordBoy goes with you.
80s WORKFLOW
Built on the best design ideas of 80s synths and sequencers, with some modern luxuries mixed in. Less time switching between windows on your phone, more time being creative.
ONE SCREEN
A phone will never be as flexible as a full-size DAW. So instead of cramming one in, with endless menu diving and fiddly UI, we built something that plays to a phone's strengths. Chord sequencing and simple melodies, all on one screen, so you can make something you're happy with quickly instead of digging through menus until you give up.
ANY SKILL LEVEL
Simple enough to learn music with: chord progressions, melody and a bit of theory along the way. Deep enough that experienced music makers can write real songs, or just brainstorm ideas.

/ DRUM KITS
ANLG · DRUMS
Punchy analog kicks, snappy snares and fizzy hats, the classic machine sound.
FM · DRUMS
Clean, bright digital drums with that metallic mid-80s ring.
TAPE · DRUMS
A real kit recorded to tape: warm, a bit wobbly, very human.
Pick a kit and the keys become drums, whatever the octave. Draw beats in the piano roll, a row per drum; the toms and the kick even tune themselves to your key. Try it below.
YOU PRESS THE KEY, I'LL HIT THE DRUM.
/ EXTRAS
ChordBoy has over 70 animations, all in retro LCD pixel-art style. Tap around and see what he does!
ChordBoy, ChordGirl, Classic, Cool, Space, Cowboy, Punk and New Wave. Pick his outfit in the menu.
Play for half an hour and he takes a break on the couch with his dog. He's earned it.
Leave him alone for a while and he dozes off. Play a chord and he's straight back up.
He has 10 HP and feelings. Tap him on the screen in the app and find out.
Stuck for an idea? Hold him and he goes fishing for chords, reeling in a progression for you.
There are games hidden in there, with high scores. Finding them is half the fun.
While a song plays he dances, head-bangs in his headphones and scratches records, a few bars of each.
A jazzy bounty hunter, a famous crossing and more. We won't spoil the rest.
/ YOURS TO KEEP
BM-98 Chordboy is ad free, subscription free, and always will be! It's a one-time purchase to own.
We hate having too many subscriptions, and we especially hate when it costs money every month to make music.
